ILLEGAL CHINESE TOUR GUIDES LIE TO TOURISTS

With the Japanese government pushing to make tourism one of the major pillars of its economy, the number of foreign visitors to the country surpassed 24 million in 2016 to hit an all-time record. Tourists from China made up a quarter of the total, numbering around 6 million. However, many tour guides from China have been found to be “illegal guides” who have not passed the national certification to become a Licensed Guide Interpreter.
Cases of Chinese tour guides and duty free shops colluding to sell expensive items to tourists have come to light. We captured a shady scheme in its entirety on camera.
